The purpose of World Blood Donor Day is to raise awareness about the necessity of blood donations around the world.
Donating blood is a voluntary gesture that can save people's life and/or improve their life quality.

10 facts about blood donation:

  1. You need to be over 18
  2. You must be in good health and weight at least 50kg
  3. It is a voluntary act. Thus, non-remunerated
  4. Men can do it 4 times a year while women can do it twice a year
  5. A donation can save lives and/or improve the health and quality of life of many patients
  6. Age limits depend on the country
  7. You don't need to know your blood type
  8. In many countries, you need to do a check-up before donating, and you need to be part of a blood donor association
  9. There is more than one way to donate
  10. Autologous or self-donation: individuals have the chance to self-donate their blood (for example: before non-emergency surgery)
